Christian Rück

One of the affiliated research groups at Karolinska Institutet is led by professor Christian Rück.

The group members are psychologists and physicians that also work as clinicians. The research is focused on obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related disorders. Body dysmorphic disorder, hoarding disorder, tics and Tourette’s disorder, trichotillomania and termatillomania, and olfactory reference syndrome, are all part of the OCD-related disorders.

Part of our research programme is about the causes and consequences of OCD and related disorders. We study the genetic underpinnings in an ongoing study by collecting clinical data coupled with DNA from saliva or blood samples. We also conduct epidemiological studies and twin studies on OCD and related disorders.

We also develop and evaluate new treatments. We have previously evaluated internet-delivered CBT for OCD and body dysmorphic disorder in Sweden and abroad. Some of the ongoing projects include internet-CBT for trichotillomania and dermatillomania, adapted CBT for OCD in indivduals with autism spectrum disorder, group CBT for hoarding disorder, and neurosurgical interventions for individuals that have not benefitted from previous treatment attempts.
